Palm Springs Preggo Style

This LA heat is inspiring me to write about Palm Springs! You may remember a previous post of mine about a girls trip I took with my sister and cousin to Palm Springs. Well we did it again, but this time around went to a few new spots. Also on this trip, my sister and I are both pregnant. This year, I missed Coachella because I didn't feel comfortable being pregnant in the hot dusty desert  and because my gurl Beyonce backed out. I almost always go to Coachella, making my visit to Palm Springs an annual thing. It was only fitting that I do it a bit differently this year and so here is a recap of our preggo style trip haha.

OUR STAY / WHERE WE ATE:

We stayed right down the street from the Saguaro (where we stayed last) at the ACE hotel. Although it was my sister and cousin's first time staying there, I have previously stayed there with friends. I much prefer the restaurant on site and they offer better drinks and food poolside than the Saguaro. We got the nachos and caesar salad by the pool and it was just a perfect snack, not to mention the service was great. We also liked that they serve Clover juice ( bonus for pregnant ladies, that can't get fun cocktails but want something refreshing.) As far as restaurants, we ate at Cheeky's and Birba of course, because they are not to be missed when visiting Palm Springs! We happen to try out Appetito, The Farm, Reservoir, Ice cream and Shop(pe), and Lappert's. We enjoyed that Appetito was right next door to the hotel. The food was good and they give quite large portions. The Farm is a good place to eat for breakfast or brunch. We liked their crepes and farm house flair.  As for Reservoir (a restaurant in the new Arrive Hotel that just opened this summer,) we were disappointed in their petite lunch menu, but mostly that the food and service wasn't good. Ice Cream & Shop(pe), also in the Arrive Hotel was quite cute and although the ice cream flavors were somewhat basic, it was a nice treat. Lappert's on the other hand is quite yummy! They serve up the famous Dole Whip, which is so refreshing in 100 degree heat.

WHERE TO:

Since we've pretty much done it all at this point, we didn't do much but eat, relax and lounge! This summer, Palm Springs had some very  cool art installations put in place. We decided to visit DESERT X and it was a very cool experience. The mirrored house was so very neat and photo worthy! In these photos I'm 25 weeks and my sister is 28 weeks! I can't believe how the time has flown. I'm currently 35 weeks and very anxious to meet my baby!

Rachel Rates Palm Springs

I've been to Palm Springs many times but every time, I was at a loss for what to do. The reality is there isn't much to do in Palm Springs. It's great for a weekend of relaxation and sunshine. Even so, It's still nice to explore whats good to eat and drink.

On this trip, I visited two hotels...
The Saguaro- The last two times I've gone, I've stayed at this hotel. The colorful decor is a sight. I kinda love it, because it makes me happy. As far as the service and food provided there, it isn't anything to brag about. I've eaten at both Tinto and El Jefe, and I will say if you have to choose, go for Tinto, otherwise eat elsewhere. The food at El Jefe is awful.  The pool is always packed, especially for holiday weekends and music festival weekends. They host many pool parties! I also like that they provide bikes for rental but let's be realistic who is gonna wanna bike ride in 105+ degree weather.

The Parker- I love the retro decor! The hotel has a bunch of little areas to just hang out. I loved the hammocks in particular. I tried to order a lemonade from their super cutesy lemonade stand but it only sells to hotel guests, which I thought was super lame. I didn't get to take the iconic picture in front of the parker, for there isn't much room to do so, it's smack dab in the valet area; where about 6 valet attendants stand waiting to assist arriving guests. I haven't stayed here (it's typically more expensive) but I've eaten at Norma's which although is pricey is quite good. The patio area is so cute but I recommend siting inside to avoid siting in a puddle of your own sweat. It's hot out there and there are no fans.

Other Hotels:
The Ace - I haven't stayed here either, but I have visited the grounds. It's trendy, hipster and fun!
The Riviera- Loved the decor, everything else not so much. Bad service, and my room wasn't cleaned well, which made for the first and last time I'll stay there.
The Omnia- Great hotel! This hotel is more family oriented, so expect to be among children. It has a lazy river pool which is awesome but also attracts children.
JW Marriott- I haven't personally stayed here but I've heard great things.

On this trip, we yelped searched the hottest/ best eateries and ended up at Birba for dinner. While we arrived an hour early for our reservation, we sat in the cocktail area while we waited. After waiting, we were disappointed with our table. They sat our party of 3 at a table meant for 2. Also the misters, were right above us and ran almost the entire time, until we asked for them to be turned off. The entire meal I was damp and could barely see. The food took 45 mins and the service was not good. The server although friendly was not attentive. We weren't impressed, and probably will not return.
Koffi was another yelp recommendation however that we did end up enjoying. We tried their Tea Freezes, the peppermint one was quite refreshing!

This trip we also visited #THATPINKDOOR which for a fashion blogger is obligatory. It's a bit funny to think that someone's front door to their home has become a photo opportunity.

Speaking of Obligatory photos, the Cabazon Dinosaurs is a must. It's easily a pit stop to Palm Springs and a fun little area to hang out after grabbing a famous Hadley's date smoothie.

Into the Weekend..

Labor day weekend is here! What are your plans? I've planned a girls weekend with my sister and cousin! We're headed to Palm Springs for a fun little getaway. There are so many cutesy areas in Palm Springs. We are staying at the Saguaro, so stay tune for a colorful photo diary. I love the retro feel of palm springs, I can hardly wait to shoot there! In the meantime, I thought I'd blog a recent ootd that I've posted on my IG.

Chella, the good, the bad..

This year my Coachella weekend was so different than all the other times I've been. It had it's good moments and its bad. In the past, I've rented a house with friends, but this year we decided to rent hotel rooms. I stayed at the Saguaro, a beautiful rainbow colored hotel. I loved the different colored walls it offered and the simple vibrancy of it all. I have to say, it's a blogger worthy hotel for sure! This year I also attended The Neon Carnival party for the first time, and it was so much fun! Who doesn't love FREE everything, right? It is hands down the best party of Coachella.  As far as negatives go, I was a bit disappointed that I did not get to attend any blogger or fashion parties, and because the hotel was rather far from Coachella, it was more difficult to coordinate with a big group and spend more time on the festival grounds. Plus Drake sucked live; I like his songs but ughh come on, could he have been any more boring. XO

DESERT OBSESSED

Hello Friends.
A girlfriend and I decided to make a quick trip to palm springs. The intent was to relax and get our tan on. Clearly that was a fail, it was so hot, I could barely lay out; I'm still pasty as ever. The entire drive up, I thought to myself this is a perfect photo op. In fact, Palm Springs is entirely a perfect backdrop for so many photos. The palm trees, the desert rocks, the open air, the vintage architecture, the pools, it's all so bohemian! Perhaps I'm still in Coachella mode, because all I can think about is knits, kimonos and all things white. Here is a desert inspired look, let me know what you think?!! XO
